What is jaculus (rodent)?

Jaculus is a genus of rodents commonly known as the jerboas. They are small animals native to deserts and semi-arid regions of North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. They are known for their long hind legs, which are adapted for jumping and running, and their short forelegs.

The typical body length of jaculus is between 15-25 cm, and they weigh around 50-200 g. They have large ears that help them to hear approaching predators, and their eyes are adapted to see well in low light conditions.

Jaculus species are solitary, nocturnal animals that feed on a variety of foods, including seeds, insects, and vegetation. They have the ability to jump up to three meters in a single leap, which helps them to avoid predators.

Some species of jaculus are kept as pets due to their small size and unique appearance. However, the international trade of some species is restricted due to their declining population in the wild.
